Thank you for the interesting, newsy newsletter. We hope you enjoy your sojourn to Scotland. Norma and I are in the antipodes: Sydney, Australia.
Both Norma and I read over a hundred books a year. The first one this year was THE FROZEN RIVER. She said: “You’ve got to read this, it will probably be my book of the year”. She has just finished her 74th, GONE MISSING, the 4th in Linda Castillo’s Kate Burkholder series, and still feels River will be the best for the year. I have not yet read it, but will in the coming months.
Thanks also for the book recommendations. I have spreadsheets for Books, Movies and TV series and have added the five you mentioned to the book list.
I am sure you will enjoy both UNDER THE DOME and THE ROAD. There are other Stephen King’s I enjoyed more than Dome, notably 11-22-63, being well read on US politics and JFK, and for me THE ROAD is equal best with McCarthy’s NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN – (excellent movies made from each one).
What I have enjoyed recently: EDGE OF ETERNITY, the 3rd volume in Ken Follett’s Century trilogy, and Dorothy B Hughes’s RIDE THE PINK HORSE. Both of these are on Audible, as are a big percentage of the books I “read”. Although familiar with her name I had not read Hughes before. This was narrated by Stefan Rudnicki, who is an outstanding reader. Surprisingly, with Stefan being in LA, we are friends on Facebook, because of a review I did on his wonderful narration of Mikhail Sholokhov’s AND QUIET FLOWS THE DON. I also reviewed Pink Horse, which he read as well.
Okay, I've gotten to the point in the episode where you're talking about Marshall's teeth and I am DYING. "Orthodontia!" I had no idea the Deiblers had a show -- this is great!
Also -- have an amazing time in Scotland. I still haven't been but the way you described your desire to go is exactly what I feel about it. Like going home.
Safe travels and have fun! I'm going to Scotland next year and I'm so excited :)

Thank you again. Happy reading, and writing.

I really enjoyed the podcast. It made me appreciate your books even more. “Kindness in a man is strength”. Loved that.
I want Scotland for the same reasons and a few years ago I found out why I had always wanted Israel. So I’m so glad we went in 2023.
